Research Trip

Another component of this year’s excavation in Syria involved research trips to Jordan, Italy, and Great Britain to look at Roman theaters and Roman Legionary sites throughout the Roman world that are contemporary with the site that we are excavating in Afamia, Syria. The political situation in Syria this year made it too dangerous for us to excavate in Afamia this year, which is why a research trip to these other contemporary Roman sites was planned.

  1. YAY for picture-palooza! It's so fun to see all these, and I'm trying not to drool too much. I laughed out loud at the DP picture, and again at the kitty! So funny. :) My only complaint is that there were no vampires in the Volterra pictures. ;)

  2. I'm glad that you like them! We'll have to plan a trip to Europe together sometime. That would be a blast. Yes.... when I discovered that they had Dr. Pepper in Petra (THEY ALSO HAD IT IN DAMASCUS!!!!!!) I wanted to jump up and down and shout "Hallelujah!!" But I just got really giddy instead. Well, I would have taken some pictures of vampires in Volterra, but the pictures probably wouldn't have turned out with all of the glowing, shining, body sparkles.
