Sesbania tomentosa
This short shrub with
sweet smelling leaves is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. The leaves are covered in thousands of tiny
hairs, which act to shade the plant from the sun and to help gather moisture
out of the air. The beautiful coral-red
flowers were used extensively for lei-making.
This plant is endangered.
